The Vliets EP
Welcome back to the Not So New News. This time around we're focusing on The Vliets self-titled 2011 debut. Originally dubbed as an homage to Captain Beefheart's, Don Van Vliet the stoney art-rock jammers have since renamed the group to Dubious Rothschild with an LP due out this year.
"Bps" jangles like Elliot Smith post bong load with an indulgent but lovely guitar solo running through the greater part of the track. The opening "A Vessel of Cells With An Ego, Hardly One" channels a lo-fi Radiohead vibe circa Ok Computer with droning synths and an ever-rambling guitar riff. Amidst the free form most of the EP follows "Elephant" stands out, sticking to a traditional Pop structure that is executed seamlessly.
