Portugal. The Man: Creep In a T-Shirt [STRFKR remix]
When you first hear of two great things coming together it provokes a mixed bag of emotions. Like when Ben & Jerry graciously combined cookie dough and brownies to give us their mouthwatering HalfBaked. Or when The Black Keys teamed with Roc-A-Fella Records to bring the rap infused blues project of Blakroc. Part of you is admittedly nervous – will they meet the expectations of seemingly picture perfect combination? – while the other side of your brain assures you two of your favorites have melded to form a powerhouse of satisfaction, what could go wrong? So, you could imagine the glass case of emotion I found myself in upon hearing STRFKR decided to lay their flavor on Portugal. The Man’s “Creep In a T-Shirt". Thankfully, this jam falls into the latter.
Following a few shared tour dates on The Honda Civic Tour, the two groups coming together should be no surprise but the end result is just that. Leaving Portugal’s infectious chorus fully intact, STRFKR gives the song a disco makeover adding whip-like claps and a bouncing bassline that will have you skipping across the dancefloor. It’s a tasteful touch that honors the original’s catchiness while layering on the fuzzy synth work that STRFKR have successfully branded as their own.
