A few months back, you may recall our infatuation and lust for all things Brazilian. The culture, landscape, people, energy; there is something in the air that keeps us intrigued. Our passion for the country was re-ignited, when we first heard the psychedelic space rock of Wannabe Jalva. The Porto Alegre band serves up a refreshing dose of vintage rock, fooling us into thinking we're in the sepia-toned haze of the 60's.
Their music is expansive and eclectic, hard to put in words and best described by the band themselves as "uterus space-groove rock." 2010 saw the band's inception when members Rafael Rocha, Felipe Puperi, Tiago Abrahao and Fernando Paulista formed the band.
Their infectious sound has caught the attention of KCRW and Nylon and landed them slots alongside Pearl Jam and Vampire Weekend. They will be heading to New York next month for CMJ, appropriately following their Oct 15th release of their EP, Collecture.
There's a reason why Wannabe Jalva are on everyone's radar; we're confident that their upcoming performances will provide further validation. See you there.
