With summer coming to a dramatic end here in the UK, there is only one way to cling onto the heat and the desire to escape to the beach - by listening to a band that take you there in around 3 minutes.
A band that has done this for me is Roses. A three piece from Los Angeles who just have that perfect summer vibe in their sound. I can’t drive (it’s probably for the best) but when I listen to them, they make me want to speed away in a car and head to the nearest beach to watch the sun set.
Roses released their debut EP Dreamlover a little under a month ago, and everything about it just oozes that glorious floating feeling your favourite song gives you. The EP is made up of moments that make me feel as if Roses could just be the next band I fall in love with. It'd be hard not to. Their sound has the ability to transport me far away and makes me momentarily leave everything behind.
For me, “The Fog” is the stand-out track on the EP. It’s got a lovely combination of hazy guitar with soothing synths. The whole record feels like a lustful dream, and "The Fog" truly captures the sound. Dreamlover is one of my favourite EPs released this year, and it’s pretty obvious that Roses aren’t just one of the most exciting bands on the West Coast, but one of the most exciting bands around.
Roses have the ability to make you think about their lyrics but to also forget about your troubles whilst carelessly swaying to their ethereal music. I know nothing in life is perfect, but Roses come extremely close.
