[NEW ALBUM] Sinkane: 'Mean Love'
The rare times that I use Spotify as a 'search engine' (if you will) for discovering new artists, it provides gems that re-instill my faith. One of those gems, is Sinkane. It was a hot Spring day in March of '13 when I was preparing to head out to SXSW, and in need of a playlist for the trip.
Ahmed Gallab is the leader behind the musical project that is Sinkane. "Warm Spell" shot through my rather rusty laptop speakers as is, like a gust of warm, tropical wind. The mixture of textures and eclectic sounds whisk you away to a foreign land - somewhere steel guitars, afro-beat, jazz, reggae, roots, twang and synth coexist.
Galleb's global musical palate could largely be attributed to his upbringing and background; he was born in Sudan, raised in Ohio and now resides in Brooklyn. It as if he has carefully collected key musical elements from each region and 'Sinkane' is the expressive musical outlet through which he tells his story.
