Two Year Vacation: Canned Heat
It's approximately 2:20pm and 'today's office' finds us across the bridge in Manhattan at a somewhat institutional coffee shop, Think Coffee. Fueling ourselves on caffeine and the premise that Foursquare was established at this very cafe, we aim to have a similarly productive work day.
Walking through Greenwich Village on this lush summer's afternoon was everything you would expect out of New York in June - surreal and sickly perfect. Water fountains, picnics in the park, historical monuments, charming buildings, birds chirping, overly-friendly food vendors; days like these reinstate why we decided to buy a one-way flight to this remarkable city.
In search for a song that would adequately accompany today, I began my daily 'internet troll for new music.' Two Year Vacation's "Canned Heat" came across my laptop via Swedish blog, Nordic by Nature. The lighthearted melody accompanied by warm vocals has all of those infectious qualities for an afternoon like today. Rather than attempting to describe the genre, think of what you would be listening to during a 1960's vacation to the Mediterranean with a light sprinkle of modern-day synth. The band said it best when they described their music as "tunes for your vacation."
This Gothenburg 4 piece formed in January in an attempt to escape the Swedish January blues. The result is quite convincing...
