People Get Ready: Physiques
Every once in a while, that thing happens when you are just about to throw your computer at the wall in frustration and you stumble across that "one last song." That moment when you are usually quite delirious, sleep deprived, rushed out the door or in my case: d) all of the above. I owe KCRW for my latest discovery.
People Get Ready are a New York based project whose creative outlets include everything from music to art to dance, and everything in between. The cheerful guitar and clapping gestures which introduce you to their track "Physiques" were enough to keep me intrigued and on repeat. Seriously, what are we on now... play number 5 sounds about accurate.
Maybe it's because Steven Reker uses a healthy dose of hand gestures to express himself, something I am very familiar with. Maybe it's because I've found that band I was looking for which excites me so much so that it keeps me awake and spooning my laptop speakers until 2am, on a Friday night. Maybe it's because Reker's limber movements remind me of a certain WW fav (Father John Misty). Or, maybe it is simply because People Get Ready offer a refreshing sound that I can't quite sum up in genres or comparisons. Whatever the reason, I'm entranced.
Enough about my waffling, let's get my rambling over so that you can hurry up and listen to this artistic spectacle (rather than tediously wade through my reaction).
Their sophomore album Physiques will be available for our listening pleasure on June 24.
