Young & Sick
Here is a new musical discovery that grew out of a beautiful friendship and a late-afternoon picnic in Austin's Zilker Park. Our lovely friend Sarah had been introduced to this Holland-born, LA-based 'music and art project' by a friend of hers, and decided to pass this on to us.
The first impression we were given of Young & Sick was through the lyrics "naked on the floor on fire, tasting you" (from the song "House of Spirits"). The only thing better than having a pretty lady say that to you on a picnic rug in the late afternoon sun, is a handsome man from the Netherlands breathlessly croon it over a sultry soundscape.
Nick's vocals are as smooth as… red wine? melted chocolate? or something else decadent that you never knew you craved until you'd tasted it. Before I get more carried away describing my inappropriate infatuation with this sound magician, I should probably mention the 'art' side of this project.
Nick creates all the artwork for the band/project, having previously done album artwork for a host of big-name artists (Foster The People, Maroon 5, Robin Thicke, and Mikky Ekko) and had his t-shirt designs sold at Urban Outfitters.
Mysterious, slow and sensual R&B with airy vocals and a collection of adorable illustrations - this guy is the whole package. Drool.
Favourite songs: "Willow" (obviously), "House Of Spirits" and "Continuum"
