Sylvan Esso: Coffee
I remember the first time I ever heard Amelia Meath's silky vocals overlayed by those luxurious synth beats; it was a rainy afternoon and I was driving into the romanticism that is the city of San Francisco. Maybe it was the scenery, the moment, or quite possibly the song... but regardless, Sylvan Esso's "Coffee" has since been on constant rotation.
Sylvan Esso is the musical child of Mountain Man's Amelia Meath and Megafaun's Nick Sanborn. The side-project began as a fluke -- one experimental song was created and as a result, a band was formed. Like any start up project (ahem... casual plug), the pair moved to an area abundant in good food and cheap rent. A full-length record was created and we have all been #blessed with the fruits of their labor.
The first track off of their album is a sexy, sultry, minimalistic ballad; perfect for those warm summer evenings or those rainy San Francisco Days (cue the velvety vocals of Chris Isaak). The video for "Coffee" was just released -- a fantastical homage to dancing, parties and the general debaucherous events that take place during both (vomit, couch make-outs, awkward dance moves and cheap beer consumption).
ntil the glorious day of their album release (May 13 via Partisan Records), you can pour yourself a smooth cup of coffee and revel in the above video. As it's nearing the weekend, we're going to take some mental notes and use this video as weekend inspiration... if y'all are in Austin, see ya there. x
