Futuristic- jazz, ethereal-soul, psychedelic-funk, electronic-r&b; we're not quite sure which genre to stick with when describing musician, Stephen Bruner, so we'll just go with his stage name, 'Thundercat.'
Thundercat is one of those artists who can disregard the traditional genre boundaries and create his own. His music is a fusion of multiple sounds, instruments, textures and flavors. Although his style may be difficult to categorize, the outcome of everything he creates is rich in soul, funk and lyrically meaningful.
Bruner is an LA based singer/songwriter/bass player whose artistry has been kept under the radar. He is an acclaimed musician whose past and continuous collaborations involve the likes of Flying Lotus, Erykah Badu and Suicidal Tendencies among others.
Thundercat recently released a double video for the two tracks "Evangelion" and "We'll Die" (off of his 2013 album 'Apocalypse'). "Evangelion" is beautifully shot and perfectly accompanied by the soothing sounds of his washed-out vocals and almost psychedelic beats. "We'll Die" is the perfect minimalistc video to showcase his raw vocal and instrumental talent.
We were first introduced to Thundercat by San Jose Jazz and Bay area promoter, Universal Grammar, the very same people who will be presenting him at the San Jose Jazz Winter Fest on February 28.
