Dream Koala: Odyssey
We get sent a lot of music. So much, it's got to the point that when I want to find something new, sometimes I need look no further than my Inbox. This suits my lazy ass just fine, however it does mean that I sometimes lose touch with the world outside the various email chains I am in. (Note - I am not complaining, please keep sending us music)
Today I opened an email containing a selection of artists (thank you Windish Agency), one being Dream Koala. Here is a name that I had definitely heard before, yet most likely due to my short attention span had been distracted by something else shiney out of the corner of my eye (I sound like a magpie) and forgotten to actually give him a proper listen.
18 year old Yndi Ferreira grew up in Paris with Brazilian parents, teaching himself how to play guitar and to sing. His song "Odyssey" was premiered on BBC Radio 1 back in August, and within 3 weeks reached the #4 position in the Hype Machine charts. He's already got a solid following in Paris, and after playing at Bestival last year, has been receiving a lot of attention from the UK.
The video for "Odyssey" (off his EP with the same name) is a 3D animated creation from Paris' Fabulous collective, and couldn't really more ideally capture the essence of the words 'dream' and 'odyssey'. My only question (as an Australian) is where did the 'Koala' come from?
