[PLAYLIST] Best of 2013
If you know me (if you don't - lets be friends. At least make it Facebook official) then you'll know I'm a big fan of all types of list-making activities. I don't know why, it's definitely not an admirable quality, but I just really enjoy it - ok?
So every year when ABC's Triple J compile the biggest and most comprehensive list of their listeners' top songs from the year before, in a huge glorified countdown from 100 to 1, on Australia Day, in summer, with the whole nation listening... well you get the idea. It's the list to end all lists. It happens every January and for once I am in the country so you can BET I am getting completely involved.
You know, I was going to leave it at that, but I think I'd quite like to share with anyone out there who has never had the privilege of going to Australia or knowing an Australian just what sort of activities this fine nation chooses to indulge in on this day of historical significance. "Celebrating the diverse culture, unique landscape and history" No no, "fun community and family events", get real my friends. We are talking about a country that loves to binge drink and barbecue, and what better day to do this on, than the day that celebrates the anniversary of... wait what is it again?
So wherever you are on January 26th - grab a cold beer (or a case) and a stubby holder (yes, this is a real thing) and have a listen to The Triple J Hottest 100 of 2013 (you can stream it online, and even still vote before 20th Jan).
Or, in the mean time listen to my 'shortlist' playlist I made during the somewhat impossible task of choosing only 10 songs from a whole year's worth of great music. There are a few that I'm predicting will be in the top ten, a few that are my personal favourites, some guilty pleasures (Frank Ocean), absolutely no Kanye West, and a few just thrown in for good measure to help weave the intricate fabric that was 2013.
Oh, and my top ten tracks of 2013 were:
(in no particular order - it was hard enough narrowing it down to this)
Baths - "No Eyes"
Rhye - "3 Days"
Hiatus Kaiyote - "Nakamarra"
Generationals - "You Got Me"
Blood Orange - "It Is What It Is"
King Krule - "Out Getting Ribs"
Isaac Delusion - "Transistors"
Devendra Banhart - "Für Hildegard von Bingen"
Rodrigo Amarante - "Hourglass"
The Veils - "Another Night On Earth"
