[LIVE REVIEW] Giving Tree Band @ SXSW 2013
THE GIVING TREE BAND | MARCH 15, 2013 | SXSW | AUSTIN
As is the nature of South by South West, music is everywhere. In every bar, on every corner, in bike stores, hell even in Wholefoods. We were lucky enough to stumble across The Giving Tree Band playing on chaotic 6th street one afternoon, and sat down to have a listen and tap our foot along.
I guess the first thing that drew us to them was attempting to count how many different instruments the band had between them. Banjo, violin, acoustic guitars, a mandolin, even a double base. These boys are all talented multi-instrumentalists, known for picking up and playing just about anything. They may have started out as just the brothers Todd and Eric Fink, but they have now expanded to 7 members who all have their own style and influence on their brand of music.
They're described as a band's band. Living and travelling together, playing American rock, country and folk tunes. We saw their more folky side as they busked on the side of the road, drawing a small crowd of appreciators, most of whom they went over and chatted to between and after songs.
You can download their album 'Vacilador' for free on their website, proving once again that they are a giving kinda band.
