[GUEST POST] Nathaniel Rateliff
Nathaniel Rateliff wandered into my subconscious one recent morning via a friend's Spotify playlist and hasn't left my mind since. My discovery wasn't anything new, as Nathaniel rose to international fame some time ago in 2011 after touring with The Fray and a stint on Jools Holland. His rough, husky vocals hit me like an old, dusty memory that just became a vivid recollection. I fell in love with his soft sound and beautiful melodies the moment I heard his song 'Still Trying', and I've been listening to his new album 'Falling Faster Than You Can Run' on repeat. It is the perfect soundtrack to a late night drive, an early morning start or a lazy afternoon nap, with a sublime mix of upbeat and downtempo .
Nathaniel and his 5-piece band, The Night Sweats, from Colorado have just finished their month-long tour opening for Dr Dog and The Lumineers across the States and have been getting stellar reviews from the likes of Vanity Fair and Q Magazine.
What I love most about his new album is the way the songs relate to one another, melodies and ideas weaving in and out of each track. The first three tracks feel like they are three parts to one whole, and this resonates throughout the album, leaving the listener feeling perfectly complete by the end.
