ON AN ON: Ghosts
ON AN ON is the creative musical project composed of members: Nate Eiesland, Alissa Ricci, and Ryne Estwing. Initially they were 3/5 of the late band, Scattered Trees. With only weeks before Scattered Trees went into the studio to record the follow-up to their debut album, two of the members acted on the nature of their name and well...scattered. As a result, the band parted ways to pursue their independent endeavours; one of these endeavours was the formation of ON AN ON.
Scattered Trees were due to record their second album with renowned producer, Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Los Campesinos!. They were scheduled to record in two weeks time and their band had just broken up. Eiesland, Ricci, and Estwing found themselves in line for a SXSW showcase of Miike Snow, when the decision to salvage what they had and proceed as a new identity was sprung.
Maybe it was the concentration of musicians, creatives and innovators at SXSW, maybe not. Regardless, this decision was one that stuck and two weeks later they met Dave to record their masterpiece debut album, 'Give In.' ON AN ON comfortably fall somewhere between ambient dream pop and distorted grunge rock. I hear obvious influences of Broken Social Scene and Beach House -- which conveniently happen to be two of my favorite bands.
