Holodeck Records present: Marie Davidson
We've been chatting to our friends over at Holodeck Records who have just casually 'popped' up to Montréal for Marie Davidson's EP release show. We stayed with them (and their many, many cats) back in March this year when we visited Austin for SXSW. Despite the fact we were terrible friends at the time and didn't make it to any of their shows (if you've ever been to the festival you'll appreciate how hard it is to stick to any sort of plans), I do recall gathering around Jon's computer one night to watch the haunting video for Marie Davidson's “Esthétique Privée".
Marie is part of the vibrant La Brique collective in Montréal, QC, and also plays in Les Momies de Palerme, Hotel Monochrome, DKMD, and Essaie Pas. Holodeck have just released her solo self-titled EP which they have described as "an incredible 6 song EP of sombre electronic explorations and minimalist, existential French-pop that has had us pinned to the floor since we first heard about her". Her first single and accompanying video leave you with chills up your spine, sitting in a dark room watching her makes you suddenly feel slightly unsettled. And that's the way you SHOULD watch it.
