Delta Spirit: Yamaha
Matt Vasquez has one of the most engaging stage presences I have yet to experience. His energy and eccentric personality are infectious; this is what sets Delta Spirit apart from other bands.
Whether he is climbing on rafters or cracking jokes with the audience, Vasquez never ceases to produce an unforgettable performance.
Delta Spirit recently released their third album [self titled]. They describe the album as being the most honest to who they are as a band. From the release of 'Ode to Sunshine' to now, Delta Spirit have seen significant growth and change -- new guitarist, relocating from LA to Brooklyn and marriage.
"Yamaha" is a departure from their signature loud, gritty, energetic and sound which is very much their own. This song is washed out, sombre and almost anthemic. You can immediately sense the growth and transformations that have occurred over the years and how this has impacted their sound.
The video is a gorgeous homage to their life on tour; showcasing the various landscapes of their travels and ending with imagery of a place very dear to Vasquez, his wife's homeland.
This is a great song, but I must say that my favorite performance has to be one which conveys Matt's personality. Like so.
They are doing a summer-long Festival run.
