Kaki King: No True Masterpiece Will Ever Be Complete
Guitar goddess Kaki King released her sixth full-length studio album 'Glow' late last year. "This is a guitar record" King says to describe it, and it truly is mostly her and her guitar, with the addition of a string quartet and bagpipes on a couple of songs, as well as an array of other instruments this talented musician/composer brings in from time to time. What I love about this album, as with other instrumental music, is how you as the listener are sort of left to create whatever visual tale you want, or make your own links and connections throughout the songs. "I hope they become whatever you want or need them to be" says King, and really, they do.
She has released a video on the making of 'Glow', explaining how easy the recording and creating was, and how naturally the musical arrangements happened for her. You can watch it via Paste Magazine here.
P.s. Did you know that Kaki King worked with Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) and Michael Brook to create the musical score for the soundtrack to Sean Penn's movie Into the Wild? Well, now you do. And it's one of my favourite movies so you should probably go watch that too.
