Hanni El Khatib: Nobody Move
"Nashville's a special spot" are the words to come straight out of Hanni El Khatib's mouth. Until today, I had no idea that he had joined the bandwagon in support of Music City, USA. Although in his defense, if Dan Auerbach was urging me to move to Nashville [or anywhere for that matter] I would not detest.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Dan Auerbach. Dan has the ear for talent and the ability to develop a musician's sound and infuse it with heart, soul and passion. He has worked with and developed the sounds of so many talented artists, including: Buffalo Killers, Patrick Sweany, Dr. John, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Black Diamond Heavies, JEFF The Brotherhood, Hacienda, The Growlers, Michael Kiwanuka and Radio Moscow just to name a few. As a producer, engineer, mixer, and musician, Dan is a collaborative genius; we are pleased to see that Hanni El Khatib is the latest addition to his roster of talent.
Both Khatib and Auerbach share an affinity for distortion, heavy guitar riffs, raw and grit and saturated-in- soul lyrics -- this collaboration could not be better suited.
Khatib is originally from San Francisco. He spent some time in Los Angeles before migrating to Nashville where he recorded and produced his latest album, 'Head in the Dirt' at Auerbach's Easy Eye Studios.
Nic, I think this is the final straw -- see ya in Nashville?
