Ivan & Alyosha
These Seattle folk-rockers make sweet and melancholic music. Their mix of vocals, harmonies and instrumentation produce a very sweet and gentle sound, reminiscent of their fellow Pacific Northwestern neighbors: Bryan John Appleby, Fleet Foxes, The Head and the Heart.
Their songwriting is reminiscent of A.A. Bondy. Each song tells an honest and emotional tale about love found and love lost, death, spirituality, the open road and the strange thing that is growing up.
Ivan & Alyosha initially formed as a duo in 2007, when Tim Wilson met Ryan Carbary. Together they received a lot of attention, although it was a breakout performance at 2010's SXSW that got the industry buzzing. 2011 saw the addition of Pete Wilson (brother to Tim) and Tim Kim. They have put in a lot of legwork since forming and it is evident in their first full-length, "All the Times We Had."
As mentioned on their website, the band's van and trailer were recently stolen - containing musical gear. In efforts to replace some of their missing gear, they have launched a campaign (in partnership with Pledge Music) to raise money. Find out about the project and pledge here if you like.
