Mikal Cronin: Shout It Out
Pitchfork sweetheart, Mikal Cronin seems to be on every indie-review's radar at the moment [including this German dude].
Industry types and journalists were all a-flutter during Cronin's several SX performances this year.
Cronin is more recognizable as a scuzzy, shy 27-year-old from San Francisco. Having been "just a bass player in Ty Segall's band," he always took the backseat when it came to playing music. He does not have an impressively long history of singing or songwriting, yet his recent venture doing both has earned him a lot of buzz and clout within the independent music scene. In 2011, Cronin released an album he'd written and recorded while still in music school, and everything changed. All of a sudden Columbia Records, Pitchfork and Merge Records were all about him. He still can't believe all of the hype he has received. He is a purveyor of that famous SF grunge sound, in a whole new way.
Cronin's sophomore album, 'MCII' was recorded late last year in a SF mansion. It was released May 7, 2013 via Merge Records.
