Lanterns On The Lake
"The band's aural landscapes are dominated by the sigh-inducing vocals of Hazel Wilde and decorated with swelling and commanding strings, including cellos, violins, and mandolins" – KEXP
Described as "narco-chamber-pop from a wild north shore" (Guardian), Lanterns on the Lake are a band from Newcastle, UK who create elegant musical confections.
Lanterns on the Lake shape immaculate songs with gorgeous string arrangements and angelic vocals. Their ability to create hand-crafted, evocative songs only adds to the romanticism of this band.
Solidifying themselves during a breakout performance on Glastonbury's BBC Introducing stage in 2010, they are now signed to Bella Union and riding on the coattails of 2011's successful debut album, ‘Gracious Tide, Take Me Home.’
Their songwriting is romantic; their music hears elements of folk, rock & orchestral arrangements all layered with a dreamy haze of electro; ultimately, this band is spectacular to the ear. The folk-chamber-ambient sounds projected from this Newcastle sextet have returned - they have released one of their most beautiful pieces yet - "Another Tale From Another English Town" - and a precursor of what to expect from their upcoming release which will be out later this year.
Band members: Hazel Wilde (vocals/guitar), Adam Sykes (vocals/guitar), Paul Gregory (guitars/electronics), Brendan Sykes (bass), Sarah Kemp (violin) & Ol Ketteringham (drums/piano).
You can always trust Bella Union to hand-pick the most tantalizing and audibly pleasing of talent - and Lanterns on the Lake are the perfect case study for just that.
